Chewy's got swag

Chewy was entered in his second DOCNA trial last night.  It was a very small group of people which was great. Plus, it was about 10 degrees cooler at the farm than it was at my house.

We did jumpers and then standard.

I thought we q'ed our jumpers run.  When I saw the NQ on the results page, I was shocked.  Apparently, we missed the 4th jump.  I had no idea.

But, no worries, Chewy did awesome, held his startline and didn't do any spinning.   I was thrilled.  He ran 4.74YPS!  Holy crap!  He stays right with me, so I think if I ran faster, he would have been in the 5's.

Then, we did standard.  I don't have a video of that run, but Chewy did great.  The run started with the tire of all things, which we haven't practiced in awhile (and half the time he goes under it).  Chewy flew through it, and then did a perfect 2o/2o on the dogwalk.   Yippee (we've been working on contacts a lot)!

In Wednesday's class, Chewy kept bailing on the teeter, but he did it perfectly in our run.   Yippee again!

Our one flub, Chew flew by the weaves.  DOCNA doesn't call refusals, so I brought Chewy back around and he did them perfectly.

Soooo proud of him!  He got his first standard Q!

Best part...he slept in until 7:30AM this morning!

Now, we'll be working on 12 weave poles, with hopes of entering the nationals qualifier run at the next trial.

dog book

I just finished a good book, The Dog Who Danced, by Susan Wilson. A book about a sheltie, who does freestyle. The best part...the dog doesn't die at the end.

How could I not check this book out at the library, with the sheltie right on the cover?

mishmash monday

I've been attempting to take photos of all my new bird friends at my feeders. Unfortunately, a lot of my photos turn out like this:

I think birds are more difficult to photograph than two insane dogs!

Anyhoo, I'm becoming well acquainted with the resident wildlife.  I've even been sneaking the chipmunks food when the squirrels aren't around. Why are chipmunks worthy, and squirrels aren't?

I have thought about buying (or making) this squirrel trapeze feeder for my amusement:
Oh the fun!

towel fetish

Does anyone else have a dog who gets all possessive over dish towels?

corner the critter

Oreo and Chewy chased a poor, cute little chipmunk and cornered him under our deck.

I think Oreo was out for blood. Whereas Chewy wanted to make a new friend.

Poor Mr. Chippy didn't want to come out from under the old septic tank cover to play, and that made Chewy very unhappy.  Turn your sound on to hear his dramatics.

The other morning, I let the dogs out first thing.  Oreo went into "sniff" mode right away, and both dogs were distracted by some incredible odors.  I decided to go in and make my coffee while they explored a bit.

After awhile, Oreo came inside, but Chewy didn't.  Weird.

I went out to check on him, and instead of running/jumping/attacking/licking me as usual, Chewy stayed at the fence line sniffing something.  I went over and saw it was a rabbit.

A no longer alive (also known as dead) rabbit, caught under our fence.

I grab Chewy and RUN inside.

I woke Jeff up to remedy the situation.  Of course, it is Jeff's job to handle all dead animals (although once, I did have to suck it up and remove a dead toad off our deck before Chewy swallowed it, I'm still squirming over that one).

I'm not sure what Jeff does with the dead animals.  All I know is I am grateful they don't end up in our freezer.

After doing the deed,  Jeff came in and said, "Which dog has blood on him?"

Jeff says, "The rabbit was still warm."

Really, you touched it?  I don't think so.

No evidence existed.  Both dogs were squeaky clean.

Anyway....Jeff is convinced Chewy killed the rabbit.
Does this look like the face of a killer?  NO!

I think the incident happened before I let the dogs out.  Otherwise, I would have heard a chase/bark scene going on, instead of the quiet sniff fest.

If it was one of our two, I'd guess it was Oreo.
"Oh please."

I guess we'll never know the cause of the rabbit's demise.

Flopsy, I'm sorry our fence killed you.  I'm no Mr. McGreggor, but didn't you learn from Peter that you can get stuck on fences?

mishmash monday

We had perfect weather this weekend! Spent almost the whole weekend outdoors. Went to the food lady's house to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday with some delicious lamb (dogs included).  Celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary (yes, I got married at age 12).

Life is good.

Even my blurry pictures are full of sunny, happy faces.

Good shot of Oreo, but Chewy's out of focus.

Now Chewy is crystal clear, but Oreo is out of focus.

Oh, we'll just stick to playing ball! (at least the ball is in focus!)

Hard to go to work today....I'm really getting in the lazy, don't shower before 11am, summer mode.  Only a few more days until freedom!

Yea, this is pretty much all we do

Maybe once exams are over, we will do some training....or not.

mishmash monday

This is what happens when you take photos without looking through the viewfinder!

I actually got a couple good shots using this method, but I'll save them for another day.
