mishmash monday

I was trying to take a photo of Oreo in his bandana, but Chewy came out of nowhere and photobombed.

Our snow and ice are finally gone! Hope that it's not an April Fool's joke, because the dogs are sooooo happy to have their whole yard back.

bandanas!

Our good friends, Lassie & Benji, sent us bandanas in the mail.  They are Wizard of Oz themed, because their mom's niece is in her school play this year and that is the show.  Oreo and Chewy wrote a message for her niece's program, and the bandanas were our thank you gift for doing so!

Cool, huh?

I love these bandana, because they simply slip over their collars. No need to tie and retie them!

One bandana has ruby slippers, the other has props from the 'oh we oh' guys who guard the witch's castle.

Which dog should wear which? That was the question of the day.

Well, Oreo really thinks 'there's no place like home'.  So, I decided he should get the ruby slippers one.

"If I click my heels 3 times, will this bandana send me back home?  That could come in handy!"

Chewy, well, he thinks he's the guard of the house (the world really).  Don't ever leave a wheel barrow where it doesn't belong, because Chewy will attack it.

So, I thought that the winkie bandana suited him perfectly.

"I'm a Winkie Guard now!  Everyone must listen to me!"
Thank you Lassie and Benji!  We love the bandanas, and think you should start an etsy business making them!

color!

Well, it still feels like winter here, but I got to catch a glimpse of spring this weekend at our local garden show.  It's always so inspiring to go each March, but this year, I really needed to see some color and whimsy!

The exhibits didn't disappoint!

Yesterday, I went to yoga class, which is held in the same building as the garden show.  A few exhibitors were cleaning up, but most of the beautiful creations were gone; the facility was ready to be turned back into an ice rink.  Hmmm, kinda like spring has been...here for a couple hours, then back to winter.

I'm not enjoying mother nature's tricks right now.

springless wednesday

Do you see spring over there?
Is it in the mail?

We heard it's supposed to arrive tomorrow.
We are trying to wait patiently.

mishmash monday

I happened to peek out the glass door, and spotted Chewy making snow angels, but what happens at the :45 second mark really made me laugh.  What the heck was that about?

He's a nut.

One of these days, he's going to hang himself on the chair rung.

bluebirds

Yesterday, I said to Jeff, "Our state bird is the bluebird, and I've never seen one. I really want to see one."

Then today, I happened to look out the window and saw a bright blue bird sitting on my toppled over bird bath.

There was a pair of bluebirds six feet from the window!  I was so excited, I ran and got my camera.

Sensing something exciting was going on, my two hooligans started barking, and the bright blue one (male?) flew away.

But the other one hung around a bit longer.

I'm hoping the couple was scoping out the place, and spotted my new birdhouse!  I'll be thrilled if they choose to raise their babies here this spring.

But, if I never see them again, at least I finally had this moment!

I've wanted to see a bluebird since I was a kid.  Can't believe it took this long.

mishmash monday

Some dog, who shall remain nameless (but happens to be seven years old and is shown in the photos below), spends a lot of time chewing on the edge of my duvet cover.

I don't know why he does this.  He only chews the one side.  Luckily, it is the side which you only see if you walk all the way into the bedroom.

It really needs to be washed, but I'm afraid it will fall apart!  I'm afraid to get a new one, because I'm pretty sure he'll chew on that too.

Maybe I should've named him Chewy, because Chewy has never chewed on anything!

chewy is fun

Here's a little video of Chewy doing agility at class this week. We missed a jump and he took the a-frame instead of the tunnel on this run.  The previous try we had it perfect.

He's so much fun to do agility with.

Oreo opted to get out of the car at class this week.  First time in a long time.  I walked him around the ring while I was walking the course and he did great!  Then, he didn't want to go in his crate.  I think he wanted to stay with me.  Luckily, it was only me and one other person that day, not too overwhelming for him.

Can't wait until we're doing agility outside again....if only the snow would melt!

walk on snow

We had a thaw last week and then a hard freeze again. This makes for really solid, crunchy snow.  Oreo was excited to find out that he could walk on top of it without falling in!
It was like reclaiming our yard back.  We had been trapped on our paths between snowbanks for so long, I felt like we were constantly doing our own version of bobsledding, or sometimes it felt like skeeball.

Oreo asks, "Does being able to walk on snow make me omnipotent?  I think it must!"
My parents are on their way home from Florida right now.   I hope they're bringing some warmth up with them behind Titan.

Chewy is three!

Yesterday was Chewy's third birthday.  Where does the time go?

Chewy may be three, but he's still my puppy!  I love his youthful, happy spirit!  Such a good dog.

Chewy had a good birthday.  Here's a snippet from his birthday walk.

Later in the day, I let him go off exploring on his own a bit, and he ended up tangled in some prickers.  Long haired dogs and pricker bushes are not a good mix!
"Help!  Somebody! I'm stuck! Really Mom?   You're taking my photo when I'm STUCK!"
Hopefully the ground beef, egg and carrot dinner made up for the entanglement.

Chewy also got to try and dig to China.  Maybe next year he'll make it there.  This may be one of the most boring Chewy videos ever, but he was entertained and that's all that matters.  It's his day afterall.

yay mr. chewy!

I brought Chewy to a league match today that was held in a different facility.  A place he had never been before.  In fact, we've never done agility anywhere except our home and at our usual training place.

Chewy was definitely nervous when I brought him in the building to acclimate him.  He was spitting out some very expensive, store bought meatballs!  Then, he was spitting out liverwurst. Finally, I switched to grilled lemon mustard chicken, and that seemed to do the trick.

I think maybe I shouldn't have brought the food out right away.  He's a big time observer, and maybe he simply wanted to look around rather than eat.  I'm so used to having to feed Oreo for every little thing we do, that I did the same with Chewy.  Must keep reminding myself that Chewy is not Oreo!

I knew right then that we would be using treats in the ring.  I picked through my treat bag for all the pieces of chicken I could find.

Surprisingly, he did his little startline sit!  Yay Chewy!  The rest of the run was kinda pokey (for him), but he did his contacts, sat for five seconds on the table, and started the weave poles (popped out after two).  We had a couple bobbles, he popped out of a tunnel and ran under the tire.

I was really happy, especially given all the newness.  Even the equipment was very different from what he's used to and he's never done agility on a padded surface.  I made sure to rub him down with a dryer sheet before we went in, because I didn't want him getting electric shocks every time he went in a tunnel.

After the run, he was back to eating meatballs and liverwurst, so I had high hopes for our games run.

I stuck to running with lots of treats, simply to make the run super rewarding for him.  He sat at the startline (although he jumped the gun a little), got all his contacts and did all the weave poles (I gave him a mini jackpot for that).  We only had one slip up at a tunnel entrance, I lost sight of him and we lost our momentum, but he finished strong and happy.

Very proud of Mr. Chewy!

And now, he's doing this:
