new park

On Friday, Chewy and I met my dad at a new to us local park. This is the same creek as the other park we go to, but it is damned here, so the water at this end of the park is pretty stagnant and pondlike.

It was a beautiful day ~ no humidity and 70 degrees.

We hiked a bunch of trails through the park.  The trail map wasn't even close to being accurate, but we managed to find our way around.
After our hike, we rested by the pond and I tried to get photos of Chewy. However, he was not into having a photo shoot, and was much more interested in the water and the fisherman.

I was glad I left Oreo at home, because there were kids playing on the playground.  That could've thrown him over the edge into panic mode.

But kids usually aren't out of the house in the morning, so we attempted to give it a try early on Saturday.

When I pulled into the parking lot at 7:50, there weren't any kids, but there were people and big dogs everywhere!!!  Lots of barking going on.

I guess this is a popular place for dog people on Saturday mornings.   I almost turned right around.

There is a dog park there, and most of the cars were down by the fenced in dog area.  I thought if I parked close to the trail head and got Oreo in the woods right away we might be ok.

This is how he looked when we first set off!
Lots of TMJ going on, and mild hysteria.

But as we walked, he relaxed a bit, sniffed some stuff, and within five minutes, he had his brain back on.
We walked really far, and despite all those dogs and people being there, we saw no one on the trails.  I guess people prefer the dogpark to the trails? I don't get that, but to each his own and better for us!

Here is the man made dam and waterfall which creates the pond.  Not that pretty, but the sound is cool.

With my dad, we stopped walking here and went up to the pond.  I knew Oreo wouldn't be happy in that open area with all those people, so we looped around and retraced our steps.  This made for a long walk and I swear it was uphill (steep hills) in both directions.  I think we walked about 3 miles or so.  Neither dog complained though.

By the end of the walk, Oreo was a happy dog.

So proud of Oreo for being able to cope with a new place and settle in so quickly.

I think this park will be really pretty in a few weeks when the leaves are in their autumn glory.  We'll have to go back then.

When we first read "damned" in the beginning of the post, we thought you were cursing. Then later on when we saw the picture of the water dam, we realized what u were talking about. I guess Mommys brain is a little slow today. Lol.

Looks like a wonderful place. So glad Oreo was able to go and relax! It's nice when things work out.

BOL - the same here as Lassiter. I was confused!

I'd rather walk in the woods with the pups than hang out in a crowded dog park.

Glad Oreo had a good hike. So nice to be able to walk in the woods without too many people around.

It's good to have favourite places to visit but it's also nice to try somewhere different every now and then. It certainly looks a nice place to walk for both you and the dogs. It was also interesting to see the change in Oreo's expression.
