mishmash monday

Chewy had bed zoomies over his babble ball toys.  Of course, as soon as I got the camera out, he stopped.  Although, he did get some zoomies for about 5 seconds toward the middle of this video.  Then, he played dead.  Not what I was hoping to capture, but he's still cute!

tagged

We were tagged, by Reilly, to answer 10 questions.  I thought I'd let Chewy do the answering this time.

1. Describe yourself in seven words.
  1. handsome
  2. ladies man
  3. perfect!
  4. good kisser
  5. lovable
  6. super hero
  7. brilliant
2.   What keeps you up at night?
If I hear Daddy go to the kitchen, I have to leap out of bed in case I have the chance of getting any more food!

3.   Who would you like to be?
a movie star, that way I can get more bitches chicks women

4.   What are you wearing right now?
I'm NAKED!

5. What scares you?
The thing my mom has the nerve to put OVER my head before we take a walk.  She calls it a harness, I call it a straight jacket.  Like I need one of those.  I rule the world, and don't need to be controlled.

6. The best and worst of blogging?
Best - everyone getting to see how freakin' fantastic I am!
Worst- sharing my blog with my smartie pants brother, Oreo.   Annoying!

7. What was the last website you visited?
Google Reader. I can read, ya know.

8. What is the one thing you would change about yourself?
NOTHING.  Didn't I say I was perfect?  Geesh, no one listens to me.

9. Slankets, yes or no?
My parents both have slankets (the real ones, not the imitation "snuggie").  Me, well, I think they look kind of ridiculous in them.  They should go NAKED like me! I guess that is a "no".

10. Tell us something about the person (people) who tagged you.
I was tagged by Reilly, a cowspot dog.  He seems to be a pretty smart dog, and almost as good looking as me.
Not sure who to tag...seems like so many have done this one already.....if you wanna give it a go, just say that I tagged you!  You're IT!

who's smarter?

I met one of my former students for lunch this week.  During lunch, he asked if I could give him a ride up to his college so he could attend a student senate board meeting. Given the fact that he will be Governor someday, I agreed, but cautioned that he'll probably end up covered in dog hair.

We walked out to my car, and he saw the sticker on my back window that reads, "My dog is smarter than your honor student."

He laughed, shook his head, and said, "Really?  That's what you think?"

Hmmm.  This kid was one of my "honor students", but is he smarter than Oreo?

I laughed, and proceeded to vigorously lint roll the passenger seat.

yes, it's tuesday

We didn't get to do much trick training the past few weeks.

Oreo has been on "rest".  He had hurt his shoulder the last weekend in January.  I had him rest for a few days, and then let him return to normal activities.  He was good for about a week, and then was hobbling again.

This go round, I had him "on leash" for 10 days, gave him three days of deramaxx, and brought him to our rehab vet.  Even though he was no longer limping by the time I got an appointment, the doctor thought Oreo was "flinging" his left leg out, rather than placing it properly.  She brought him in for an adjustment, and his shoulder made a very loud "POP".  She watched him walk again, and his gait was back to normal.  I couldn't believe the difference.  The doctor told me 3 more days of rest and then gradual return to running (all the running photos I've been posting have been old photos).

Oreo has been wearing a "back on track" jacket as we've resumed activity.  I want to make sure his muscles are warmed up before I let him run.  Seems to be working. He's running like a crazy dog and no more limp.

A lot of the tricks we've been doing require using his shoulder muscles, and I didn't want to aggravate it.  This week, we will resume our trick training.  Maybe next week, we'll have something to show off.

tricky t-day ~ Valentine's Day Special

Happy Valentine's Day (or Happy Hallmark Gets Rich Day)!

In honor of this day of love (or day of eating too much candy), I wanted to show our progress on the "catch & hug in a sit up position" trick (surely there is a condensed name for this trick?  anyone?).

Oreo is finally catching the bottle (and I'm kinda throwing it)!   We have been working on this trick for ages. Success!  It feels good to have an actual end result to show off.

Chewy is now hugging the bottle in a sit up(at least for a split second)! It may look easy, but this was really hard for Chewy to learn.  Chewy's balance skills took forever. He still has work to do, but I'm so proud of him!  Although, I wasn't so proud of Chewy when he ate the entire foot of his chase-it squirrel toy. Swallowed the thing whole.  That was my Valentine's day gift from Chewy...a vomitted squirrel foot that had stewed in his belly for 24 hours.  Simply, precious.

Anyway, here's the love:

treats from the foodlady

The puppies got special treats from the Foodlady today...sent all the way from Florida (Ellie's Edible Paw Treats).

Hope they weren't supposed to wait until Valentine's Day, because they had a hard time waiting until after dinner!

Even Chewy sat nicely for his cookie.

YUMMY!  Thank you foodlady!  We miss you!

tricky t-day ~more weaving

Oreo has been doing so well on his tricks, but I didn't have time to video anything this week.

I did video Chewy doing weaves (again!).  The poles are close enough that they are now hitting his body.

We are going to work this phase for a few more weeks. Any closer together, and he'll be doing too much bending.  I want to wait until he at least hits his first birthday.

What I may do is start adding on poles, and work up to 12.  That is if the weather stays dry.  I can't really fit more than 6 on my rubber matting in the basement.

I'll start doing around the clock entries as well.

Anyhoo, here's Chewy!

Last night at agility class, Chewy was running thru their channel weaves without bowls or a target at each end.  I was really happy that he was able to generalize.

mishmash monday

OK, since we no longer have Misty to cheer us up on Mondays, I felt compelled to start a new series.

Introducing....."Mishmash Monday!"

A series of photos (and maybe videos) that didn't turn out quite as I'd hoped!

Silly, blurry, bad hair day, nonsensical, missed opportunity, wacky photos. Photos I should have deleted, but couldn't.

For example:
Not the expression I was going for, but I love Oreo's pink tongue!

Even though it is blurry....this is soooooo Chewy!
I would love it if other people played along! If you're like me, a little goofiness is needed on a moody Monday morning.

Wait until you see next Monday's photo! I'm already laughing about it.

the gully

January

February

Hmmmm.  OK.  Not what I was expecting.   The only difference seems to be where the sun was hitting.  Not sure what time of day I took the first one.  From now on, I will try and take the photo at the same time each month (4PM).

I thought January 1st was unseasonably warm at 47 degrees, but February 1st was downright ridiculous - 60 degrees.  If you don't believe in global warming, come visit upstate NY in January & February, and bring your bathing suit.

OK, maybe not your bathing suit.  Last February, on this day, it looked like this:

Maybe March 1st we'll have some snow in the photo?

Until then, I leave you with this fond snow bank diving memory.....
