tricky f-day?

We joined a facebook training group, and this month we were to train the dogs to pick something up with their mouth.

I started teaching the dogs to stack bowls a long time ago, but kind of abandoned the trick. Chewy was having a really hard time with it.

We did make some progress this month, despite the fact that I really didn't train consisently.

mishmash monday

Not sure how this fits into mishmash, but anyway....

I was reading Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner, and she wrote she once read somewhere that "when God sees a dog he likes, he folds one of its ears down to remember it."  Like marking a page in a book.

Love that!  Can you guess why?
So all you one ear up/one ear down dogs out there~you're special.

Of course, we already knew that.

slip n' slide

Had my first agility trial slip/slide/fall today. I've seen it happen many times, but never had it happen to me!

Luckily, I was fine.

Also had another first - I took an obstacle myself!

After my fall, when I tried to get my ass back up, I ended up with my feet on the dog walk!  I did a perfect one on, one off, while Chewy gracefully went thru the tunnel like I asked.

I was the one who got us eliminated.  Apparently, they don't approve of humans taking obstacles!  Geez, the dogs have all the fun.

On our next two runs, Chewy decided to pay me back for embarrassing him in front of all his friends.

In this run, you'll see he refused to weave, and then sneakily chose the A-frame at the last second, instead of going in the tunnel!

Our second standard run went much better.  He did a flip into the tunnel from the a-frame, and then correctly chose the dogwalk in a dogwalk/tunnel discrimination.  However, he was still a bit annoyed with me and ran right on by the weave poles.  I didn't bring him back around though, because he had done every thing else so beautifully.  Such a good boy.

We had a long wait until our jumpers run. Maybe during that time, Chewy forgave me, because we had a perfect jumpers run, and got our first q in a very long time!

Chewy is a superstar!

mishmash monday

I was uploading photos of last year's students to get developed so I can hang them on my bulletin board, when I came across this one:
Two more weeks of blissful freedom before I have to go back to the big brick building in the hood.

mishmash monday

Really cute animals at the farm where I went ziplining last week.

Unfortunately, I only got shots of their rear ends (except the chicken).  What lovely butts they are though.  Who doesn't love a goat?
And here is a photo of me trying to look cool in my ridiculous zipline gear:
My Dad enjoyed taking photos of me in a borrowed helmet (ick) a little too much.  They really need to make zipline harnesses in pink.

I guess looking ridiculous is the price you pay for 60 seconds of fun.
