tricky t-day ~ 12 poles

Well, we started our weave pole trick in January, and two weeks ago, Chewy did 12 poles for the first time!

I thought I'd show a little compilation to show just how far we've come.  When I look back at where we started, it seems miraculous that Chewy learned to weave as well as he did.  Teaching someone how to simplify radical expressions is much easier than training a dog to weave independently without luring.

We still have work to do.  In classes, he often runs right past the poles, as if he didn't even see them, or is focused on the next obstacle ahead.

When I first showed him 12 poles, he kept running past the first 6 poles and weaved the last six.  Apparently, Chewy knows how to count.

Weird entries still need to be worked out too. Given he is still such a baby dog, I'm thrilled with his independence thus far, and he really knows his job with very little babysitting on my part.  If he gets the first pole, he's pretty consistent on finishing.

In all kinds of weather, at any time of day, even by the light of the moon, the moon, Chewy weaves.
He loves it! Well done!

He's just grinning on that last run-through,isn't that great how fast he's learning? I think it's amazing too!

I think Chewy should have run the opposite way at the end of the video! Chewy should have ran toward the Hammock and then hopped on it to take a much needed rest after that compilation of weave videos!!! Good job Chewy!

Wonderful!! I enjoyed watching the progression too! Chewy learned to weave so quickly. Hilarious about passing the first 6 and weaving the last six. He really must know how to count! :)

Chewy weaves!!! Isn't awesome how they learn! I found the 2 by 2 method really helped Beckett with his entries as you do the "round the clock" work with just two poles first (all entries).

way to go chewy - Denny just growls and barks at them - they are so scary!

Oh Denny, don't feel bad. Chewy had a run in with a couple of trees yesterday that he thought were scary monsters. Bark, bark, bark.

Yay Chewy!!

So fun to watch the progression! It's great to record training over time like this. I often feel like we'll never "get there" or something's taking so long, but when you've got the records to show you what you've done...bravos all around!

I think you might inspire me to invest in a camera =)
