baby hummingbird

I saw this video on facebook, and thought many of you would enjoy watching this baby hummingbird being hand raised.  The link on youtube states that the bird was set free successfully into the wild, migrated, and returned the next year.

The man also fed the hummingbird insects, as well as taught the bird how to catch insects while flying.  Pretty cool.

Catching sight of a hummingbird is always a special treat, but teaching one has got to be incredible.

Jeff had an almost too close encounter with a hummer the other day.  Scared the crap out of him when it flew right next to his head.  I wasn't surprised...Jeff is a redhead!

An amazing video! Last year my mom tried to rehab an adult male hummingbird. He lived for a month but couldn't recover - he had hit a window and perhaps had some neurological damage. It was neat to get to know him. I am so glad the little baby from the video made it!

What a cool video and what an awesome experience! My mom would love that. She got to release a hummingbird after it was banded a few years ago and she still talks about it.
