tricky t-day ~ flea

We haven't got this one perfected yet, but I thought I'd show how Oreo is learning to be a "flea".  This is a fun and easy trick to teach, and maybe some of you will give it a try.

Basically, you want the dog to jump up with all four feet.  I've been using my leg as a cue, but haven't been able to fade it yet.  Once I remove my leg, Oreo only lifts his front feet.  I guess some dogs jump straight up naturally, and you could try and capture that.

I apologize in advance for this song being in your head the rest of the day.

Even though Chewy ate the wooden spoon, Oreo is the one who ended up at the vet on Sunday.  Not sure of the cause, but he had issues at both ends.  I got the rice and boiled chicken ready,  However, when Oreo started shivering (my dogs never shiver, even at -15 degrees F), I got concerned.  We wrapped him up in a blanket and he still shivered.

Luckily, the vet was open for another 45 minutes, and they let us bring him in.

At the vet, Oreo got three shots of meds, an IV of fluid, and more antibiotics for the week.  He did have a fever.  Poor thing.

He's much better now.

Sure glad that Oreo is feeling better but still that awful worry feeling when things are not right.

Check your yard to see if there is anything out there...mushrooms?

Loved that song..really. Reminds me of something, maybe the same tune with different words from camp? Hhhhmmm. Anyway you always have such a smile on your face when you are training. New haircut? Cute!

Tucker jumps straight up. The pogo stick legs...maybe I should try and teach him more with this.

Glad to hear Oreo is feeling better. Maybe spring fever. Beckett's eye infection is clearing up, we have a recheck tomorrow. I blame it on the really soppy backyard full of you know what...

Cute flea video and song! Not sure what that trick reminds me of -- I guess a windshield wiper in the car. Guess you guys could start an Oreo and Chewy car cleaning service. Chewy will clean/eat up any wooden spoons or bugs in the interior of the car, and Oreo can wash the exterior. (Just kidding.) So sorry to hear Oreo wasn't feeling well. Thank goodness the vet was open. Mommy went to pick up more medicine for Benji, since yesterday was the late night at the vet. And they were closed an hour early. Mommy even tried calling them and the phone kept ringing and ringing. Mommy can't wait until they open today to give them the 3rd degree over the phone!

This reminds me of another trick I want to finish with Luna which is simply jumping over my arm or leg... I assume that helped you with this one? I would love to teach her this but have a feeling I would get mauled in the process.

Hope the pups are feeling better. Wyatt will sometimes shiver when he has some sort of stomach bug... or just an upset stomach/bowels... never has a fever when we take his temp during these and has never shivered otherwise. How strange, I hope Oreo feels better soon not fun at all when they are sick

OH MY GOSH, what a scare it sounds like you had!!! I am so relieved it sounds like things are back on track now. LOVE the trick and did you get your hair cut, it is too cute!!! I am going to have to try that trick, any hints on how to teach it?

Oh - first of all, glad to hear that Oreo is OK and recovering! That sounded a bit scary!

This is a cute trick! I've seen several dancing dogs do this - it's very popular as part of a routine - although they tend to stand and then stick their legs out for the dog to jump over. If Honey was younger, I would definitely try it too but now that she's a "senior" dog, am trying to avoid tricks with high impact...

We're sort of casting around for a new trick to learn at the moment...that "Hug" trick isn't going very well! :-(
