yes, it's tuesday

We didn't get to do much trick training the past few weeks.

Oreo has been on "rest".  He had hurt his shoulder the last weekend in January.  I had him rest for a few days, and then let him return to normal activities.  He was good for about a week, and then was hobbling again.

This go round, I had him "on leash" for 10 days, gave him three days of deramaxx, and brought him to our rehab vet.  Even though he was no longer limping by the time I got an appointment, the doctor thought Oreo was "flinging" his left leg out, rather than placing it properly.  She brought him in for an adjustment, and his shoulder made a very loud "POP".  She watched him walk again, and his gait was back to normal.  I couldn't believe the difference.  The doctor told me 3 more days of rest and then gradual return to running (all the running photos I've been posting have been old photos).

Oreo has been wearing a "back on track" jacket as we've resumed activity.  I want to make sure his muscles are warmed up before I let him run.  Seems to be working. He's running like a crazy dog and no more limp.

A lot of the tricks we've been doing require using his shoulder muscles, and I didn't want to aggravate it.  This week, we will resume our trick training.  Maybe next week, we'll have something to show off.

So glad Oreo is better. I wish Miley could run again. Im over all this rest.
Did you dogs have to get use to that harness? Java hates that harness but I really like it. Weird.

Oreo has had no problems with that harness. Chewy, well, I'm not sure he'd like any harness, but he HATES when I put this one over his head.

I just ordered Chewy a step in harness, to see if that will make things a bit easier.

Then, I hope to do lots of classical conditioning with the comfort flex, in hopes we can go back to it.

The jacket shows off how lean Oreo is. Poor boy, bet that POP hurt! And in the last photo he is looking so longingly at the woods...Let me RUN Mom!!

Not sure if the pop hurt or felt good, but he let out a huge yawn afterward.

Oreo looks great in that harness and the colours of it just match his black and white coat. He is a handsome boy.

I will take that 'POP' as a good sign. May be it's like Chinese massage, when we hear that POP, it means something has gone back to the right place.

Hope he has a speedy recovery so he can run and play chase with Chewy in no time. It is really hard to keep them quiet and tell them not to move that much.

Oreo's doctor uses a Chinese method of adjustment, so I'm sure it is similar to a Chinese massage. Oreo loves it!

That back on track jacket looks really cool on Oreo and glad to know it seems to help. Sure hope Oreo is back to running again in a few days - bet Chewy can't wait either!

Hope that Oreo is back to 100%--and no set backs this time!

I agree, he does look really handsome in his jacket and harness.

I know that Oreo is facing away in the last photo but I loved that shot. Him looking off towards the woods as though it was beckoning him to come....loved it. Hoping he is back to normal really soon!

The jacket looks so good on Oreo. Black is definitely his color. Mommy had a problem with her knee a few years ago. The podiatrist got her knee to pop. Mommy doesn't remember if it hurt or not, just the sound of it popping was really gross. She got a cortizone shot from the doctor for her knee, did physical therapy, and tries not to aggravate it. We hope Oreo gets well soon!

Wow, funny that Bug and Oreo both hurt their shoulders the same weekend. I am glad you are seeing such an improvement with Oreo. I think Bug has final made the turn toward healing. Yay!

Poor Oreo! Sounds like a rough couple of weeks for him. I'm glad you decided to err on the side of caution with him, though. He looks so handsome in that jacket!

Oreo is a sweetie. We are super pleased that he is healing. Is he wearing the "back on track" jacket only while out-of-doors and running or is he sleeping with it as well? He is a precious, patient dog. Love him.

He's only wearing it for a few hours a day. I use it more as a "warm up" jacket.

Oh - I'm glad to hear Oreo shoulder is recovering quickly this time. Warming up the muscles definitely sounds a good idea! I am much more conscious of that now the Honey's older – I find that if she just goes straight into a mad play session, she's more likely to injure herself. Of course, which is not anywhere near as cold as you, where we are! :-)

I must tell you – I was inspired to try and teach Honey the hug trick after watching your videos but I have to say, so far it's just going abysmally! :-) Of course, Honey can't do the 'sit up' part of the trick and so without sitting up, it's hard to have her paws free to actually do the hugging motion. It's also hard to find something for her to hug – something that is big enough yet light enough. At the moment, I am trying with an umbrella actually – just as a sort of pole to lean against her chest and she can wrap one paw round. But it's going VERY slowly. When we finally have something worth showing, I will make a little video of it and you can see what you think! :-)

Sounds like Honey is well on her way! We started with a broomstick.

Can't wait to see it!
