tricky t-day ~ hup

One of the tricks we are working on for Silvia's class is the prerequisite steps for the 'jumping up on my feet trick' (where I'm lying on my back, feet in the air, and the dog will jump and stand on my feet).  I've always wanted to try this trick, and have seen it taught many ways.

We are training it by having the dog jump on higher/narrower/less stable objects gradually.

After a week, this is our result.  I find it amazing that dogs can jump up on objects way higher than their heads. I know I couldn't do that, even with a running start.  Could you?

I'm anxious to see what Silvia says about putting their front paws on the box first. She may want them jumping straight up.

Hoping to have another one of our tricks mastered by next week.  We'll see.

I've noticed how Katie can spring, all four feet up onto the sofa from a stand...never could see how she does that. Your boys are bouncing maniacs! They'll have this down in no time!!

I'm always impressed by your tricks--this one looks like it will be no exception.

Did you find that one dog was more likely to want to jump up onto the unstable box? I have one dog who I feel like would not like jumping that high onto such a small platform.

Awesome!!! Oreo and Chewy are fearless jumpers! I am excited to see your finished product. I have thought about teaching this to Ricky so thanks for reminding me about it!

Wow - they are both doing pawsome at that...... I have been trying to teach Denny to jump on the couch for the last month with no luck....trying to get him on a box would be impossible!

Wow that is so impressive! Those boxes are light and unstable so for them to leap up shows what incredible balance they have.

Super!!!!

What a cool idea for a trick! My dog has insane jumping abilities but I am not so sure if her balance is good enough to stand on my feet. It would look pretty cool, though. Maybe I need a smaller dog?

Wow they are so brave.

That trick is so cool! I can't wait to see it finished. Is it my imagination, or is Chewy bigger than Oreo now?

The trick is so neat! You have two bouncy boys who can jump so well and so high!

Their balance on the box is fantastic!

Awesome!!!

ooooooh I may have to try this one. Luna is a master at jumping up onto things with little effort. Even if I am up on a high barstool she will do it without any encouragement. I actually have to be careful when I am sitting somewhere as she is so apt to just spring into my lap. She even jumped through my arm up into my lap, about 4 feet up, and she is a small vizsla.

So do you basically just start with a box of some sort then move taller and taller? I would like to see how you transition to feet.

I also think that your dogs will probably spring right up when they don't have the option to first use their front feet, I think that's why they are using them. They know they can, eventually it won't be such so they will probably just spring up. Just a thought.

PS... do you have any trick training book suggestions? With some good step by steps and tricks that build on eachother. I want to work through one if I can this year with luna.
