Tricky t-day - spin & down revisited

This week, Chewy learned to touch the target stick with his nose, which led to the start of his spin trick. We also have moved to a hand cue (albeit an exaggerated one) for "down".

Chewy loves to train. Although, he is a little food whore, which can make it tough for him to concentrate. Not to mention his puppy attention span is about 30 seconds!

Did you just call your sweet, sweet puppy a "food whore"? LOL!

Chewy's spin is darling and Oreo has the absolute perfect down!

That is very good. You are right about them not being able to concentrate for very long, they do love doing things though even if it's not always what you set out to do.

Chewy is just so adorable. Short attention span is expected at his age.

Chewy looks great, Oreo is being a fantastic big brother. Watching him makes me think of an exercise Sylvia Trkman had us do as one of the first ones in the puppy class, she said it is the easiest to teach tiny puppies so that is why she put it first to catch before they get too old, when they naturally do it ;-) I thought it looked like Chewy was sort of doing it for a second but esp if you can capture it and put it on cue it would be the perfect age for that...but she wanted us to teach FROG position or the SEAL position, you know lying down with their legs spread straight out behind them, or bent and pointing back....anyway you can ever work it to where they crawl forward with their legs like that, it took me forever because my dogs are older, but it seems like such a great stretch for their later life if they learn to do that on cue now ;-). I never would have thought of teaching that before the class. I have her tips if you ever wanted to teach it and got stuck, but looks like right now Chewy would be a natural. hahaha, sorry to but in with that, but it just looks like a golden opportunity if you ever want to put a stretch on cue ;-)

Chewy definitely looks very enthusiastic! Thankfully, Lola was always a mix of enthusiastic and attentive; she could last a couple of minutes' training at a time when we started, though I know a lot of dogs that can't!

I bet Chewy will grow up to be a super trick star, especially with that cute little spin!

WOW! I am impressed with how quickly Chewy is learning. I am impressed with how patient Oreo is with his fur-baby brother. They are truly adorable.

Chewy is such a cutie. I had to laugh when I read Kathy's comment, because I thought the exact same thing when I saw Chewy's back legs start into frog position on one of the downs. You can't tell that was one of the more difficult tricks for both Kathy and I to convince our older dogs to try can you? LOL
