1st post puppy trial

Oreo had an awesome trial today!  He was consistent, and overall, not too worrisome.  He peed several times, even when people were around.  That is huge for him.

The judge was Jim Mills, the founder of DOCNA.  I was a bit worried about how Oreo would feel with a male judge, but it didn't seem to bother him that much.

During our nationals qualifying run there was a "scary man" sitting right next to the weave poles (two sets actually, a set of 6 and a set of 12).  I thought for sure that Oreo would pop out, but he plugged right along and didn't miss a pole.

We came in 1st in the NAC run, and qualified for the 2011 National Championships!  Yay!  It is always a tough run for Oreo, because it is longer and more challenging.  Plus you NQ if you have an off course, which he often does.

The run we always Q, jumpers, was a NQ.  Oreo had an off course when he opted out of a jump.  Not sure if it was due to the fact that we turned back toward the people, or if it was me trying to get in position to front cross.  No big deal, because later in the run, I was actually able to REAR cross.  Something we've never done in a trial.

It was a really great day for Oreo!  Here is his standard run.

I'm planning on only doing DOCNA this summer.  The CPE trials are just too big.  There is a DOCNA trial once a month, so I think that will be perfect for him.  We'll just do one day for each trial, and 2-3 runs.

Chewy was also a very good boy.  He met all sorts of people and dogs.  He was quiet in his playpen when I was out with Oreo.    There were a lot of sheltie people there, so they were going gaga over him.  I even had the "scary man" hold him while I walked a course.  Chewy gave him lots of kisses.

My agility instructor gave Chewy some toys.  He loves these keys.

Chewy looks so much like one of the Shelties we had when I was growing up, I keep doing double takes!

I'm so glad Oreo had such a good day! It sounds like he overcame a lot of his recent troubles to really shine today! Congratulations!

I think that having Chewy to play with is boosting Oreo's confidence! I'm glad you had such a good time, and both of your boys obviously enjoyed themselves too.

See what a wonderful influence Chewy is having on Oreo - he is giving him confidence to get out there and have fun while being able to concentrate on what he is meant to do !!! Go Oreo - and go little Chewy.

Congratulations to the successful run! Oreo seems so relaxed and focused and he wasn't disturbed by the scary man who was nearby him. May be Chewy did bring him some new spices in life!

Chewy is the cutest cutie pie and it would be hard for me to believe if there was anyone who could resist to go gaga over him. He's so adorable!!!

We had keys like tht and all my dogs LOVED them, until they got a little older and were eating them, hahahahah, but they were always favorites.

Oreo is showing Chewy how to be brave around scary people. It is so wonderful when we watch them overcome their fears and accomplish new tasks.

Chewy is going to melt hearts where ever he goes.

Nice run, Sara.

Oreo did great! The video was also really good; most agility videos I have watched are slightly blurry or too far away from the dog. Chewy looked really cute playing with his key toy.

Congratulations on the new puppy. I have a 1 year old male Sheltie and was considering getting a puppy, but didn't know how the dogs would get along. We had an older dog when we first got our Sheltie, but it's been months since the older dog passed away. I'm learning a lot from your posts. I'm glad to see your two are getting along. I like Chewy's name too. It's good to hear that Oreo is like a new dog. Maybe a new puppy is in the future for me - still need to do more research though. Thanks for sharing your videos -- it helps a great deal.

Oreo looked great. Congrats on the rear cross. It's nice when you get brave enough to try stuff at a trial you only do in training!

Oreo looked so great at the trial! I am hoping we'll get to a DOCNA trial at the end of the month and see if Zoe can qualify for Championships this year.

Chewy is just so darn cute, you're fortunate that someone didn't just pack him away in their bag and try to take him home.
