tricky t-day~ hold the bunny

Gee, I hope I don't disappoint anyone this week.  When I wrote that last week's trick was a precursor to this weeks, I think many of you were picturing Oreo spinning around the broomstick, like Gene Kelly did the lightpost in Singin' in the Rain.

It's not happening.  Not yet anyway.  Good idea thought!

What I did shape was Oreo holding the broomstick close to his body, in hopes that he could "hold" other objects.

This trick is harder than it looks, since it is an unnatural thing for the dog to do. You'll see Oreo keep looking toward the camera. He's actually looking toward the kitchen and my computer. I had my "child sounds" desensitization CD playing very, very quietly. Of course, he could still hear it. Then, at the end, he hears the UPS truck, which ended our trick time.

OH MY GOD - what a GORGEOUS trick!!!!!! What a very original idea! I love it when people think up original things like this - everyone's always holding canes but this! A great new twist on an old trick!

Oh - I want to try this with Honey now and a stuffie...although I don't know if she'll be able to do it. I tried the cane with her and she had real problems curving her leg around - her legs are really long and 'unbendy' - like the wrist part is so much further down than on smaller dogs and so there is less, bend, if you know what I mean. So she seemed to have a lot of trouble "curving" her leg around the other. But I'm so inspired by your video now, I may try anyway! :-)

Woohoo! That's awesome. When I went to Silvia Trkman's website and saw the post about teaching the dogs to pick up and then hold a water bottle while sitting up, I thought "what in the world have I gotten myself into with a tricks class?"

Fortunately, our homework for the puppy tricks class isn't quite this difficult...yet.

Someday, I hope Dare and I are as talented as you and Oreo.

Ha ha - that was so funny when he heard the UPS truck, they have that effect on me, especially when I'm expecting a new laptop or something. When you say he was looking at the sound of the children I think he has you fooled Sara because to me it look for all the world like he was saying, 'Look at me guys, aren't I smart'!

Super cute! Oreo is really good at holding that bunny - I love the look of concentration he has and how still he is while holding it. Ricky is not nearly as good as Oreo!

Oh how cute! He's concentrating so hard, then it looks like the says "Oh Mom...don't make me hold this girly bunny anymore! It's EMBARRASSING!"

OMD!!! Oreo is super duper cute in the video. I love the way he holds his bunny and his concentration is wonderful.
You did a wonderful job, Sara!!! Both of you are a super fantastic team!
Is it someone's birthday today, is it you, Sara? I just saw the comment from new hip dad. Anyway, Happy Birthday!!!

What a great trick! I could see it being able to be adapted to a lot of other things. I'm glad that we're not the only ones who lose all concentration when the UPS man goes by! *looks at Morgan*

Oh my stars, that is adorable. Endlessly, amazingly adorable!

Oreo is such a cutie - I love his concentration in holding the bunny, and then how quickly he switches from concentrating on the bunny to OH MY GOD TRUCK at the end, haha!

It would be so helpful if we could hear your commands/instruction during the tricks, rather than the loud music!

Sara said...

Sorry Lindsay. I try an keep my videos entertaining...for me to watch later when my dog is no longer around. Plus, I really don't give Oreo a lot of verbal instructions. For this trick all I say in the video is "hold".

Happpy Birthday, Sara!
Oreo is so, so cute holding the bunny, but that UPS truck may be carrying a new supply of treats, so off he goes to greet the great brown truck. Didn't you use to do the same??? My sisters and I did.
