walking on snow....

After a 30 second thaw, then quick plummet to single digits, our snow has turned into the crunchy variety.

While it is no longer soft, light, fluffy and cushiony, crunchy snow has its advantages.

For example, you can walk on top of it, especially if you don't weigh too much.

Creatures who once were quite short, can all of a sudden see over the 4 foot fence.
Do you think I should worry about Oreo jumping over?
Nah. He'd miss his designated ball thrower too much.
I just have to be careful not to throw the ball over the fence.

Wow, that's a lot of snow! Looks like Oreo could just step over the fence, let alone jump. I'm sure he would never do something like that though!

Is it a possibility for you all to have some ice skating fun soon?
Oreo looks so comfy sitting on the snow! He's really cute!

I love that Oreo can just prance on top, that's a Sheltie! Shiva tends to just bulldoze right through, no matter how hard the snow seems. Light stepping is not her style.

Great snow photos! He looks so cute.

I would worry about Oreo walking over the fence - wow - that's way too much snow! We have had consistent snow coverage but no where near that amount! Are you getting the 40s and near 50s we're supposed to get next week? It will take a LONG time for all of your snow to melt!

No 40's or 50's for us :(

Mid 30's if we're lucky. Although a slow melt is better than a fast one, in terms of flooding.

Wow, he could just pop right over that fence. I hope he doesnt do that.

I used to have that problem in New Brunswick, my 4ft fence would have about 6" showing. I used to stamp around the inside of fence line and make like a moat. Since then whenever I moved and had to install a new fence I've had a 5ft fence put in.

Oreo looks like he's wondering about what's over the fence in one picture.

He looks so proud of himself that he can walk on that snow- what a neat experience for him to see OVER the fence, not through it. Oreo would be nuts if he left his wonderful ball thrower behind!

I don't know, he's such a home-boy, hopefully he doesn't want to explore the other side of that fence, cuz there are scary KIDS over there if I remember right.

I like the stomping a moat idea.

Oreo must wonder what the deal is with that short fence, LOL, it would be a good way to create a fence jumper, it would start out as an easy fence to jump, then a little snow melts it is a little harder, then more snow melts it is a little more hard, and finally the snow is gone and the dog has learned to jump the fence nicely, LOL. Good thing Oreo does not look like he needs such challenges and is happy being right where he is!

Well, you must be a more talented ball thrower than I am. I had a ball with us on our walk the other day and tossed it right over a fence and I had to climb the fence into the field we were walking past to retrieve it myself. My dogs just watched me. LOL

Ha Ha, Marie called you a talented ball thrower!
